The Akkuyu NPP is the first nuclear power plant in the Republic of Turkiye, and currently the largest nuclear construction project in the world. Four power units are being constructed at the same time. The robust construction of the buildings allows it to withstand such external impacts as an earthquake with a magnitude of up to 9.0, hurricanes, floods, a tsunami up to 10 meters high, and the fall of a commercial aircraft. The plant’s safety made it possible to locate it on the Mediterranean coast in southern Turkiye, in the province of Mersin. Throughout the Akkuyu NPP lifecycle, from construction to operation, safety and environmental issues will remain at the forefront. The solutions incorporated in the project make it possible to minimize the impact of the plant on the environment.
